Today’s topic is Model Media Kits
What are they?
A media kit is a promotional tool that contains specific information and visuals about the talent.
It consist of:
Professional Business Card: Has contact information, portfolio link etc
Professional Comp Card: Showcase 1 head shot & 5-8 niche market pictures with stats
Professional Talent Resume: Showcase things you have accomplished in different categories and time frame.
When should you create it?
First thing first….lets make sure you are “serious” about being in this industry as money will be spent to create and print these items.
Business Card: This can be done at any point, but I would suggest waiting a few months until you have a few things figured out. Again you are spending money and you do not want to have to update/change information right away and then be stuck with 200 business cards that are now “out of date or information”
Comp Card: The standard model comp card size is much bigger than a business card. It is slightly bigger than a post card. A standard comp card is usually printed on double-sided. On one side, it has the model's name, contact info, stats, and head shot and the other side has 4-5 images that represent your niche.
Model Resume: This is typically a 1 page document that has your contact information and stats. It will also be your brag sheet of things you have accomplished thus far. Ex any runway, commercial, publications etc. Could have a picture on it, but not needed especially if paired as a whole kit.
Why do we need them?
This kit is important as it speaks for you in various ways. It visually show your strengths and focus, it provide contact info and it details your experience which can help determine pay rate per projects. It is also important because t is something you can leave behind after you left. They can keep it on file and always follow up with you if you fit for a project in mind.
How they should be created?
These kits can be created in various programs, the most important aspect is to ensure you have quality images ( proper size so image doesn’t get distorted). Proper size of a comp card is 5.5 x 8.5.
